José Luis Zavala, directivo de Cofiza, recordó que en un principio propuso construir un monumento de 20 metros de altura en el sector del Terminal Terrestre, pero Monseñor Julio Terán le animó a construirlo en el Bombolí. Pidió apoyo a Wilson Erazo y Francisco Suárez, quienes ‘dieron un poco más’, de allí que se construirá un ‘Cristo de la Misericordia’ de 62 metros de altura en el Bombolí.
El alcalde Víctor Quirola dijo que buscarán recursos para aportar en este proyecto. Wilson Erazo agradeció a otras empresas que se han ido sumando, pues la obra tendrá un costo total de USD 2.4 millones y auguran concluirla en 24 meses. Cofiza, Wilson Erazo y Suárez & Salas aportarán con USD 150 mil cada empresa.
Con el tiempo se requerirán más parqueaderos, ampliar la calle de acceso al Bombolí, entre otras obras, por lo que se pidió el apoyo al alcalde. Zavala recalcó que representantes de Record Guinness ya los han contactado y esperan estar en las páginas de la historia del mundo.
